4AN INTRODUCTION TO
IRRIGATION & RETICULATION SYSTEMS
FOR RESIDENTIAL APPLICATIONS:

There are several means by which you can water your lawns and gardens, but by far the best, most efficient and most economical means is by utilising a professionally designed reticulation system designed to include below ground P.V.C. or Poly piping, pop-up (or surface mounted) sprinklers positioned to give full coverage to all required areas in the most efficient manner, electronically operated solenoid valves and an automatic timer/controller.

An efficient, professionally designed system  should last a lifetime. Please consider the  following factors carefully.

A fully automatic reticulation system which has been designed specifically for your requirements using high quality components has a number of benefits:

1. You are no longer tied to your garden when it comes to watering times.

2. Watering cycles are accurately controlled for you by the automatic controller.

3. The system can operate at night or early morning when evaporation is least.

4. Your system will continue to operate whether or not you are at home. You can go out, go away for the weekend or go on vacation without having to worry about your garden getting the water it needs. This will undoubtedly substantially increase your leisure time. 5. Any reticulation system you install is an asset to your property and will always add to its value.

6. Your garden will look better as it will be watered accurately and evenly, and you can help to conserve one of Australia's most precious resources ... Water!

4WATER RESOURCES:

It is not necessary to have a bore or well to supply your reticulation system as excellent systems supplied by mains water are commonplace. Of course, installing a bore or well will ensure that you will avoid high costs for excess water, the extra costs of plumbing and materials incurred as a result of the new W.A.W.A. (Water Authority of Western Australia) regulations concerning Backflow Prevention, and the inconvenience of summertime water restrictions. If you are considering installing a bore, Canning Irrigation Supplies have several professional drillers available to assist you or can advise you on doing the job yourself

4WATER PRESSURE AND FLOW:

Water 'pressure' and water 'flow' are different. Best described, water flow is the available volume flow of the water, and water pressure is the force behind that volume flow. They are however closely related when is comes to reticulation as the combination of the two at the water source will govern the ultimate design of the system. It is essential therefore to determine exactly what you have available. To establish the water pressure and flow available, flow-testing units are available which are both easy to use, and inexpensive to hire. (N. B. A test just using a bucket and your front lap is in the majority of cases less than accurate which could either result in your system costing you more than it should, or even result in a system not working!!)

4DESIGNING YOUR SYSTEM:

The key to this is that YOU don't!! Our design service is free so we suggest that you use this service to your advantage and let professionals do the work for you. All we require from you are two things:

Firstly, a clear, accurate, scale plan of your property (or at least of the areas to be watered) detaiIing the house, garden, water source (ie: well, bore, or water meter), driveway, paths, pool, and any obstacles such as shed, trees, walls, etc.

Secondly, the results of your flow / pressure test which can be written on this planner in the spaces provided.

(N.B. Any major elevations / height differences on the property should also be detailed as they can affect the final design.)

Systems will always be designed with maxim um efficiency in mind to minimise water wastage, and where practical to do so we will ensure most sprinklers will be arranged to throw water away from the house, walls, driveway, paving and road. This means that the maximum amount of water will be spraying on your garden and not going to waste.

In many cases, parts of your garden will require to be watered less often than others and for less time. In such instances, we recommend a 'Dual Frog ram' system which wiII allow you to water such areas in a totally separate way (ie. lawns separate from gardens, etc.)

We always recommend the use of top quality products as they will give the best performance, be trouble-free, and last a lifetime, however to cater to all needs, lesser products at cheaper prices are always available. Cost is an important consideration, and if you have any constraints where this is concerned, please feel free to discuss it with our staff as it will assist us in the design process. All of our staff have many years of experience and a high level of expertise in the Irrigation Industry. All of this is at your disposal.

4WHY YOU NEED A DESIGN SERVICE WORKING FOR YOU:

The three major factors which have prompted irrigation companies to have design services are firstly, as a genuine service to customers, secondly that we are professionals in the irrigation industry with all the appropriate experience necessary to give you the best system for your home or property, and thirdly to try to ensure that some unpleasant past experiences are not repeated. These are a few reasons why we need to design your system:

1. If too many sprinklers are turned on at the same time (regardless of the type of water supply, there will be too little pressure and flow to operate them properly, uneven watering will occur and dry spots will result.

2. Incorrect spacing of sprinklers will also result in uneven watering and dry spots as they need to be spaced at specific maximum and/or minimum distances to effect correct coverage, which relates back also to the available water pressure and flow.

3. Different types of sprinklers (i.e. both large and small) should never be mixed on the same sprinkler station where it is practically avoidable as this will also cause uneven watering because of their differing precipitation rates.

4. We must ensure that legal requirements as specified for mains water systems by the WA.WA. are met such as the requirement for legally performed plumbing work, Master Solenoid Valves and the appropriate type of Backflow devices. Heavy penalties can result from not adhering to these requirements.
