Your Own Bore

Many Perth suburbs have a good supply of shallow underground water suitable for garden use. The cost of setting up an underground bore depends on how deep the water lies below the surface.

4Canning Irrigation can suplly and install your Garden Bore, complete with efficient pump and control equipment. The pumps we use for this are purpose built and have the following qualities, among others:

Heavy duty casing.
Abrasion resistant self-lubricating bearings.
Built in check valve.
Ceramic wear surfaces.
Positive seal to prevent reverse rotation and water hammer.

4Modern reticulation controllers can be linked to these pumps to enable automation of garden watering. The set-up cost of tapping into bore water can be quickly offset if your annual usage fees are already high. Several neighbours could cover the cost of a bore watering system together, all sharing in the benefits.

4Despite the obvious competition, the WA Water Corporation actually encourages homeowners to sink bores. Suburban development tends to remove tree cover, resulting in upward movements of the water table and salination of the land. Sinking bores can reverse this.

4Perth water quality is usually well-suited to growing plants. However, it often contains a high level of dissolved iron. Once the water mixes with air, the iron comes out of solution leaving a rusty coloured stain. This water can be excellent for plant growth, particularly for lawns, but it quickly makes a mess of paving and walls. One solution can be to use low-throw sprinklers or design a system to ensure that water doesn’t come into contact with walls or paving. But that's not always possible. 4Bore Clean Link3

4By the coast some bores present limey or alkaline water, which in the main is good for most garden uses. However you should take that into account when choosing plants. Avoid acid-loving plants like azaleas, grevilleas, camellias and ericas, which tend not to be very happy in alkaline coastal soil.
